Benefits of Sensory Play

Sensory play has been shown to:

  • Build nerve connections within the developing brain’s neural pathways, which trigger a child’s inclination for and ability in completing more complex learning tasks
  • Support language development, cognitive growth, motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction
  • Aid in developing and enhancing memory functioning
  • Be great for calming an anxious or frustrated child

Sensory play is a big part of our Special Baby Groups.

Sensory Lights

For a child in hospital or with a chronic illness it is really important to continue these areas of development. Also, on a simpler note the sensory lights we provide can have incredible short term positives for children:

  • For children with severe disabilities sensory toys can provide brilliant stimulation for them
  • For children who are very poorly having a colour changing cube to look at whilst in bed can distract them from their pain or discomfort
  • Watching a light box change colour and/or listening to the lullabies on the projectors can calm a child and help them get to sleep
  • During receiving treatment watching a projector of light cube can distract a child so their injection, or one of many other procedures the children we support have to have done, is much easier to manage for everyone.
