The 12 Days of Christmas – Day 12 – Christmas Boxes to PICU

And here we are… the final day, day 12 of our 12 Days of Christmas!!

Evie spent the majority of her 6 months with us in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Great North Children’s Hospital, and each year since we have made sure to donate Christmas boxes (amongst hundreds of other things…) for the families who face being on the unit on Christmas Day. It is difficulty, in fact impossible to explain the stresses and strains placed on families when their child is fighting for their life in intensive care, which is the reality of life in PICU…

The aim with our Christmas boxes is to hopefully bring a small piece of joy to the families on Christmas Day, to let them know they aren’t facing everything alone.

We donated 2 boxes to each bed space…one for the children and one for the parents…

The children’s box contains:

  • A lovely soft blanket, which will bring comfort
  • A foam flashing toy, which is great for sensory stimulation for the babies and children
  • A soft toy to cuddle
  • A Santa stress ball to squeeze
  • A couple of Christmas books
  • A card from us (modelled by Alan Lamb in the photo)
  • A couple of little treats for then they are feeling better…

The adult’s box contains:

  • A home-made Christmas Cake
  • 4 x home-made mince pies
  • 4 x home-made shortbread biscuits (all made by Evie’s gran Hazel – who if we do say ourselves is a tremendous baker!)
  • A box of chocolates

We hope all these gifts can make a little difference to the families in PICU today and send them all our love and best wishes. Team Evie xx

So, there you have it, the 12 Days of Christmas are over…we have really loved sharing so many donations with you! As we have said all the way through the feature, this is all down to YOU our wonderful supporters. Without your marvellous fundraising efforts we wouldn’t be able to donate so many lovely things and make such a difference to sick children and their families in our region.

Thank you so much to each and every one of you.

Merry Christmas everyone,

Team Evie xxx
