St. Mary’s raise £1044 with their Reading Challenge

A huge well done and thank you to all the pupils, families and staff at St. Mary’s RC Primary School in Workington, who have raised a whopping £1044 taking on our School Reading Challenge!

What a fantastic amount! We presented an assembly to the children all about Evie, the charity and the difference the money they have raised will make and they were all incredibly lovely and enthusiastic about what they had done. You can see the pictures from the assembly and cheque presentation below!

The Reading Challenge taken on by schools helps us to provide more portable libraries for children’s wards in our area, which make a huge difference to children and their families.

Reading to children in hospital is proven to:

  • Aid recovery of the children when they hear a familiar voice
  • Strengthen family bonds as they read together
  • Encourage all member of the family to be involved during hospital visits
  • Create a sense of normality in a strange situation/surroundings

If you would like sign up your school for the reading challenge it is really easy, simply head to our designated Reading Challenge page and enter your schools details.
