Cuddle Cot Loan Service

Anyone who has had to try and cope with the death of a baby will have some understanding of what an incredibly difficult event this is to cope with. But for parents the trauma of such a loss brings a level of grief and pain which is  unimaginable to those who have not experienced it.  It therefore follows that anything which can help alleviate that pain, in however small or large a way, should be available to all bereaved parents.

The option for breaved parents to spend as much time with their babies as possible is their fundamental right and this is widely encouraged by health professionals, bereavement practitioners, still birth/neonatal charities, and academics. This is usually in the hospital maternity/labour ward but increasingly parents wish, and are being allowed, to take their babies home. The problem is that the normal temperature of a home is not the best environment for the baby and his/her condition can deteriorate, sometimes quite quickly, so keeping the baby  cool is absolutely essential. The  CuddleCot is a simple, effective and relatively unobtrusive way of achieving this.

Use of the CuddleCot offers families the opportunity to spend valuable time forming an important bond with their baby; by changing a nappy, dressing the baby, taking photographs or simply just staying close and holding their little one. What would in other circumstances be ‘taken for granted’ activities become major contributing factors in helping families begin to deal with their loss.

To help facilitate this Team Evie can offer a CuddleCot for families to use in their own home through their own funeral director. The CuddleCot can be collected from Team Evie by the funeral director who will sign a Loan Agreement giving them full responsibility for the care and safe return of the equipment. The funeral director can then get the Agreement countersigned by the family. Simple operating instructions will also be given.

If required, a specially adapted Schnuggle Moses basket can also be provided which can be lined and covered with the babies own blankets or covers, but parents may prefer to use their own basket. Team Evie provide the CuddleCot totally free of charge.

If you are a bereaved parent in need of this service ask your funeral director to speak to us, or if you contact us we will speak to them on your behalf. If you are a funeral director who hasn’t received one of our Information Packs, or you are at present helping a family who would appreciate this service, please do get in touch.
